Access Essentials Fast Track

This one day course is the first step for delegates who may be self taught in some of the basics of Access, and need to further consolidate their skills and knowledge before attending an Intermediate or Advanced course.

By the end of the course, you will be confident in using the essential features of Access to create and alter simple relational databases.

By the end of the course you will be confident in:

  • How to use queries to sort and select information in many different ways.
  • Database design principles, including the use of One-to-Many relationships.
  • How to create tables and link them.
  • How to create a form that allows delegates to work with more than one table.
  • How to create reports that give professional printed output.
  • How to group information & calculate totals in reports.
  • How to use the names and addresses in a database to create labels

This course is run for a maximum of six delegates.


  1. Creating and editing queries using criteria; Sorting
  2. Relational Database; Recap; Table design & Creating tables
  3. Primary key & Relationships between tables
  4. Advanced forms - main/sub
  5. Creating Reports with the report wizard; Groups & Totals; Mailing Labels; (Mail Merge to Word)
  • Delegates must be confident in using Windows and a mouse, plus one other Windows based package.
  • To attend this course, delegates must also be confident in the following elements of Access: creating a simple table, understand principles of design, creating and designing a simple form.
  • It would also be useful if delegates have created simple queries and reports.
Please note that Access is potentially a very complex package. For anything beyond the simplest database delegates will also need to attend the Access Intermediate and Advanced course.
