This interactive workshop is designed to enable participants to gain an understanding of
appraisals and their importance in the overall performance management system, which
will enable them to be positive in their practical approach to the appraisals of their team
members.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Explain where appraisals "fit" in the attainment of business objectives
  • Explain the responsibilities of all participants in the process
  • Demonstrate best practice when participating in an appraisal interview
  • Complete your organisation´s appraisal process
  • Explain what SMART targets are
  • Demonstrate their ability to set & use SMART targets

This course should be run for groups of up to 12.

Anyone who is responsible for the line management / supervision of others and is required to undertake an effective appraisal.

The contents of this workshop will incorporate issues of equal opportunities and anti-oppressive practice to assist participants in understanding and challenging all forms of discrimination.

  • Explaining the appraisal process to your team using positive language – increasing commitment and buy-in
  • Preparation and planning of self & others
  • Completing self appraisals
  • Managing the environment / expectations / positive and constructive outcomes
  • Manager´s appraisal: giving feedback using behavioural language
  • SMART target setting
  • Skills practice: appraisal meetings / setting SMART objectives
